Event Report - Nature Exploration
The fall foliage and unseasonably warm temperatures were the perfect backdrop for the eighteen first and second grade students who ventured onto the nature trail for our Nature Exploration walk! The action started right from the start when a student discovered a Praying Mantis on the recess yard as we were walking to the trail. All of the students were treated to up-close views as we learned about this fascinating insect!
Next, we walked down the main path and were paused by a chorus of birdsong. Multiple species were present that day, but our most exciting bird observation was a very territorial Tufted Titmouse that heard Mr. Quindlen’s Tufted Titmouse impression. The bird flew from across the meadow and right over our heads. It then perched a few short feet away to inspect the suspicious sound as the students looked on excitedly. Despite our noise, the Tufted Titmouse stuck around for a few seconds before taking flight again and out of view. The theme might have been Nature Exploration, but up-close wildlife was the real theme and highlight of the day!
