Weekly Report - 2018-03-16 - Pileated Woodpecker & More
Activity is definitely picking up on the BSES Nature Trail! This week yielded 24 species for the property.
One Pileated Woodpecker was seen flying over the BSES building. I first heard the bird on the east side of campus, then I observed it fly right overhead and over school towards the nature trail. I was unable to refind the bird, but I heard it singing in the neighborhood around Spring Meadow Lane.
Eastern Bluebirds were most certainly thinking spring! I observed a male and female bird hanging around the bird box in the upper parking lot. Seems like they were scouting it out for a potential nesting site!
Canada Geese have been congregating all week on the baseball fields of BSES in the morning. In just a few short weeks, that will come to an end as they head up to their breeding grounds in the great white north!
