Trailblazers BSES Nature Club for K-2, Winter 2023

The winter of 2023 marked an exciting new chapter for Trailblazers: our first-ever club for students in Kindergarten! Trailblazers BSES Nature Club is for students in Kindergarten through second grade, and it provides students a developmentally appropriate and safe opportunity to get connected with nature!

The club met weekly after school this past winter with the goal of getting out on the BSES Nature Trail each session. Thankfully, we had a pretty mild winter! This made our visits out to the trail quite enjoyable. Some days, we took binoculars with us to see what birds we could find; one day we counted 38 sparrows! Other days, we would hike the entire nature trail to look for animal homes. We also learned what kind of trees are found on the trail! One rainy day, we stayed dry inside and enjoyed some bird bingo to learn about the birds found in our area!

Special thank you to James, one of our Trailblazers guides from GVHS, who helps teach the students about nature! He treated the students to a wonderful presentation about the mammals of the BSES Nature Trail before we went out looking for some!

This first session of Trailblazers BSES Nature Club for grades K-2 was a huge success! Thank you to the students who joined us for a super fun session, and thank you to BSES families for their support of Trailblazers!
